Heywood Lake Reopening

Heywood Lake, north-west of Swan Hill, was closed prior to the Victorian Duck Season opening due to the presence of significant numbers of Blue-billed Duck.

The lake is set to reopen this Sunday (April 24) in light of further monitoring by the Game Management Authority, as the Blue-bills have moved on and the numbers at Heywood Lake have declined.

Johnson Swamp, Lake Elizabeth and a segment of Toolondo Reservoir remain closed to hunting to protect rare and threatened species, while Kow Swamp (near Gunbower) and Reedy Lakes (near Kerang) will remain closed to reinforce their sanctuary status.

If you're heading out this long weekend, Field & Game Australia encourages all hunters to act responsibly, safely, and respectfully.
