Field & Game Australia welcomes the Victorian Government announcement that current game licences will be extended to include the 2021 Duck and Quail Seasons.
Field & Game Australia wrote to Agriculture Minister Jaclyn Symes, putting the case for consideration of current game licence holders in light of the current level 3 restrictions in place to combat the spread of COVID-19.
While we understand the need for the restrictions, and support efforts to protect Victorians, there is a significant impact on hunters ability to participate in the open Quail Season and the upcoming Duck Season.
Extending the game licences for another year is a sensible and practical step.
We are still pursuing our request for consideration of a realignment of the Victorian Duck Season to commence when restrictions are eased sufficiently to allow hunters to participate. We are respectful of the COVID-19 measures in place to protect public health and a delay until restrictions are eased would also be a sensible and practical approach.
We are also seeking an urgent review of the ban imposed on the sale of firearms and ammunition to recreational shooters and hunters. We believe the continuation of the ban is having a crippling effect on legitimate businesses and licensed individuals and needs to be lifted as a matter of urgency.
