Outdoor Recreation Victoria Bill 2026

Published Fri 14 Aug 2026

The Victorian Parliament has today passed the Outdoor Recreation Victoria Bill 2026.

Field & Game Australia welcomes this important step and is pleased that the legislation will establish Fishing, Hunting and Outdoor Victoria, with hunting clearly recognised in both the name and governance of the new authority.

FGA consistently advocates for hunting to be properly represented, for specialist game-management expertise to be retained, and for decisions to be informed by the best available evidence and on-ground knowledge.

With more than 15,000 members nationally, we make a significant practical contribution in Victoria. We are involved in restoration, monitoring and advocacy across 20 significant Victorian wetland systems. In 2025–26, our members recorded over 5,500 hours supporting pest and vermin management, while our volunteer-led branch network supports around 550 clay target events each year.

FGA will now work constructively with government as the new authority is established to help ensure it delivers practical outcomes for responsible hunters, conservation volunteers, outdoor recreation participants and regional communities.
