A parliamentary inquiry has been launched into access restrictions on public lands and waterways — including hunting areas, national parks, crown land, state forests, rivers, beaches, and more. Field & Game Australia will be making a submission, but your voice matters too.
The first 10 draft plans are now open for review and comment. The draft Recreational Area Management Plans seek to formalise the ongoing use of these areas. While this is a welcome step, Field & Game Australia is committed to ensuring that hunting access is maintained and strengthened, and that hunters are acknowledged for the positive, evidence-backed contributions they make to conservation, land management, and regional communities.
The 2025 Victorian Stubble Quail season kicked off over the weekend under harsh, dry conditions—but at least the weather brought a little relief. Saturday offered a sunny autumn day, while Sunday brought cooler, windier conditions that helped make time in the field more pleasant, if not more productive.

High pathogenicity AI H5 viruses (including H5N1) have not been detected in animals in Australia. In Australian poultry enterprises, eleven outbreaks of HPAI H7 strains occurred between 1976 and 2024 [20-25]. HPAI has never been detected in Australian wild birds, other than one detection of HPAI H7 in a feral Eurasian starling (Sterna vulgaris) trapped inside an affected poultry shed during a 1985.
